Shri Vinod Paliwal

Shri Vinod Paliwal is a highly accomplished Sustainability, Environment, Health & Safety (EHS), ESG, and Climate Change professional with more than 26 years of distinguished experience across government organizations and leading industrial corporations. He has extensive expertise in developing sustainability strategies, environmental management plans, statutory clearances, climate change mitigation, biodiversity conservation, ESG reporting, integrated management systems, process safety, occupational health & safety, and corporate sustainability transformation.

Throughout his career, he has successfully led large-scale sustainability initiatives, environmental compliance programs, greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting, carbon management, environmental impact assessments, integrated management systems, and safety transformation projects for some of India’s leading cement manufacturing organizations. His professional excellence spans Sustainability Planning, Environment Management, Climate Risk Management, Circular Economy, Alternative Fuels & Raw Materials (AFR), Pollution Control, Behavioral Safety, Risk Assessment, Process Safety, Corporate ESG Reporting, and Regulatory Compliance.

Currently serving as Assistant Vice President (Sustainable Development) & Factory Manager at Birla Corporation Limited, Shri Paliwal leads Sustainability, Environment, Health & Safety (EHS), ESG, ISO Management Systems, AFR, Horticulture, Plantation, and Environmental Compliance functions. He is responsible for Group-level ESG and BRSR reporting, GHG emissions accounting, implementation of Safety Management Systems, environmental clearances for greenfield and brownfield projects, regulatory liaison with MoEF&CC, CPCB and State Pollution Control Boards, environmental compliance, emission reduction initiatives, occupational health & safety, and implementation of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 Management Systems.

Before joining Birla Corporation Limited, Shri Paliwal served as AGM – Sustainability at Shree Cement Limited, where he played a pivotal role in Corporate Sustainability Reporting (GRI Standards), Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) reporting, Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), Climate Change initiatives, Cement Sustainability Initiative (CSI), benchmarking studies, integrated management systems, and environmental excellence across the organization.

Earlier in his career, he worked with Grasim Industries Limited (Aditya Birla Group), leading environmental clearances, environmental impact assessments, hazardous waste co-processing, and sustainability initiatives for major cement, mining, and thermal power projects. He also served with the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, where he contributed to national environmental monitoring, air quality management, laboratory quality systems, ISO 17025 implementation, and environmental research. His professional journey began with Mahabal Enviro Engineers Pvt. Ltd., where he specialized in environmental monitoring, EIA studies, environmental auditing, and ISO 14001 implementation.

Shri Vinod Paliwal is an active member of the FICCI Climate Change Task Force, CII Climate Change Task Force, and serves as an Industrial Expert with the National Council for Building Materials (NCBM). He has actively contributed to sustainability initiatives with the Global Cement & Concrete Association (GCCA), Cement Manufacturers’ Association (CMA), Federation of Indian Mineral Industries (FIMI), and previously supported the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) Cement Sustainability Initiative (CSI) in advancing low-carbon technologies.

His outstanding contributions have been recognized through several prestigious national and international awards, including the International Green Apple Award (2015), Global Sustainability Award – Platinum Category (2018) by the Energy & Environment Foundation, and the Greentech Environment Award (2019). He has also received corporate recognition for pioneering hazardous waste utilization, developing innovative environmental projects, and driving excellence in sustainability and environmental performance.

Shri Paliwal represented India at the 6th Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development held in Bangkok, Thailand, where he participated in international deliberations on sustainability reporting, circular economy, and sustainable industrial development.
